Chapter 19
Aubrey
âI feel like I just picked you up here the other day,â Dad says as he pulls into the airport parking lot.
âDonât sound so sad, Dad. I am only going to be gone for two nights. I meet with the director and the foreman tomorrow and then fly out the next day,â I say as I pat his hand.
âI thought Nate said that Wolf was going too.â
âHe is.â
âI donât mind driving you anywhere but how come you didnât drive with him? Or are you taking different flights?â
âWe are on the same flight.â I leave it at that. âThanks for driving me, Dad.â I give him a quick hug and jump out of the truck with my carry-on and purse. âSafe drive home.â
âSafe flight, text me when you get there.â
âOf course!â
Getting through security was quicker than normal so I stop at a coffee shop for an iced coffee and a muffin before I take the short walk to the gate. There is still another thirty minutes before I have to board the plane, so I set my bags down and watch the planes coming and going on the tarmac. I love watching everyone bustle around getting everything ready for a safe flight and loading luggage. I am distracted enough that I donât notice Wolf approaching behind me.
âI thought I told you we were traveling together.â I refocus my attention to his reflection in the window. He is pissed.
âWe are traveling together. We are on the same flight.â
âDonât be a brat, Aubrey. Youâll make my palm twitchy. You knew I planned on picking you up at Jimâs. You purposely left early.â
I turn around and look him straight in the eye. âI never agreed to you picking me up and driving with you to Portland. I thought I was clear when I said you donât control me.â I see a tick in his jaw as he leans into me.
âYou will know when I am controlling you, love, and you will like it.â My heart is pounding in my chest. Love? Jesus, this man.
I walk around him and sit down next to my bags, pull out my phone and ignore him as best as I can. I expect him to sit next to me but instead, he goes to the desk and speaks to the flight attendant there. I distract myself by texting Lola.
Me: âLOLA! I canât wait to see you tomorrow! We still on for dinner?
Lola: âYES GRRL! 7, right? I hope you donât mind but Mr. H is going to come too. Is that, OK?
Me: â7 is perfect! And yes! I want to meet this hot guy that stole your attention!
Lola: âSpeaking of a hot guy, he just got here! I gotta run! Safe flight!
Me: âThanks! Have a good night!
âWhen I look up from my phone, Wolf is walking back with two things in his hand. âIs that my ticket? How did you, where did you get it?â I start looking in my purse for my ticket, which isnât there anymore. That bastard went in my purse and took my ticket!
He smirks and passes it to me.
